Barbara Walker Crossing, Pedestrian footbridge in Forest Park, Portland, US.
Barbara Walker Crossing is a pedestrian footbridge made of steel that spans over West Burnside Street. It connects Forest Park with Washington Park as part of the Wildwood Trail system.
The project began in 2012 with discussions between architect Andrew Wheeler and artist Ed Carpenter. The completed bridge opened in 2019.
The crossing bears the name of Barbara Walker, who worked to establish and protect Portland's parks and green spaces. Her name marks an important contribution to the city's natural heritage.
The bridge is easily reached from the Wildwood Trail system and guides hikers safely across a busy street. Clear signage marks the route and makes it simple to navigate between the two parks.
The bridge was built in three prefabricated sections that were assembled during a two-day street closure. Assembly required precise work to fit the sections together at the site.
