The Marylhurst Art Gym, Contemporary art gallery in Marylhurst, Oregon.
The Marylhurst Art Gym occupies a former gymnasium space, featuring large windows and high ceilings that provide natural light for artwork exhibitions.
Founded in 1980 by three faculty members of Marylhurst University, the gallery started with an initial investment of just 1500 dollars.
The exhibition space has presented works from over 300 Pacific Northwest artists and produced more than 80 detailed exhibition catalogs throughout its operation.
The Art Gym archives, containing decades of exhibition documentation and regional art history, are now housed at the Portland Art Museum's Crumpacker Library.
In 2013, the gallery received a million-dollar matching endowment from the Robert and Mercedes Eichholz Foundation to support its curator position.
