Belle Court Apartments, Tudor Revival apartment building in Northwest Portland, United States
Belle Court Apartments is a four-story brick building in the Tudor Revival style with ornate half-timbered details and steeply pitched roofs. Located in Northwest Portland, the complex combines decorative architectural elements with a residential layout designed for multiple households.
Ellis Fuller Lawrence designed this residential complex in 1912 as a contribution to Portland's urban housing architecture. The project emerged during a period when the city was expanding with new residential neighborhoods and multiple-unit dwellings.
The building belongs to the Alphabet Historic District and shows how Portland's more affluent residents wanted to live in the early 1900s. The half-timbered details and steep roofs reflect the desire of that era to bring European elegance to the city.
The building sits on Northwest Trinity Place with good access to nearby shops and public transportation for residents. The adjacent private park provides a useful outdoor space for daily living.
The private park in front of the building is not a typical front yard but a specially designed green space that residents use with their pets. This type of integrated outdoor area was uncommon for apartment complexes of that era.
