Lloyd Center Tower, Office tower in Lloyd District, Portland, US
Lloyd Center Tower is a 20-story glass and concrete office building in the Lloyd District of Portland, Oregon. It sits in the northeastern part of the city, next to the Lloyd Center shopping mall.
The building was designed by John Graham & Company and finished in 1981, during a period when the Lloyd District was moving away from its residential roots. That shift brought new office towers and commercial buildings to what had previously been a quieter part of the city.
The Lloyd District around the tower shifted from a residential neighborhood to a commercial center over the second half of the 20th century, and that change is easy to see today. Office workers, shoppers, and transit riders all move through the same streets, giving the area a mixed and active weekday energy.
A covered pedestrian bridge links the tower directly to the Lloyd Center mall, which makes moving between the two easy regardless of the weather. The nearby MAX light rail stop makes the building accessible without a car.
In 2001, the building received an environmental award for its management practices, which was unusual for an office tower of that era. The recognition came two decades after it opened, suggesting the approach to building operations changed noticeably over time.
