Little Prince, Literary novella in New York, US

The Little Prince is a novella written in New York that combines watercolor illustrations and narrative text to tell the story of a young prince's travels across different planets. The original manuscript contains around 140 pages and shows multiple draft versions of the work.

The work was written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and published in New York in 1943 while the author was in exile from France. The English and French editions appeared nearly simultaneously, with the English version going to print first.

The story follows a young prince traveling between planets while exploring themes of friendship, love, and loss that resonate with readers of all ages. These universal ideas have transformed the work into a book that each person interprets differently based on their own experiences.

The original manuscript and select illustrations can be viewed in temporary exhibitions at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York. Plan to spend time carefully examining the author's handwritten pages and sketches on display.

The English-language version went to press before the French edition was published because German occupation during World War II restricted publications in France. This event made the book itself a part of its own history.
