Burnside Bridge

Burnside Bridge is a bascule bridge spanning the Willamette River that connects Portland's east and west sides. Its two distinctive towers and metal railings are visible from far away and form a notable feature of the skyline.

The original structure was replaced by the current bridge in 1926 using advanced construction techniques for that era. It was later added to the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its importance to the city.

The bridge is woven into downtown life and serves as a gathering place for residents. Markets operate beneath its western end, while skateboarders and cyclists gather at its eastern approach.
