Bottle Beach State Park, Nature reserve and bird sanctuary in Aberdeen, United States
Bottle Beach State Park is a nature reserve along Grays Harbor's shoreline with rocky beaches and expansive tide flats. The site includes viewing platforms positioned to help visitors observe birds and marine life in their natural setting.
The area was the site of Ocosta, a late 1800s settlement planned as a deep-water port that never materialized due to economic constraints. This failed development allowed the coastal landscape to remain in its natural condition for future conservation.
The Audubon Society designated this location as an Important Bird Area due to its role in supporting migratory birds from Central and South America.
The park sits near the main road and offers parking areas close to the viewing platforms for easy access. The best time for viewing and photography is during low tide when the flats are fully exposed.
The wetland is a critical stopover for over one million shorebirds during spring migration traveling from southern wintering grounds to northern breeding areas. This concentration of birds in a small space creates rare opportunities to witness large flocking behavior.
