Lewis Army Museum, Military museum at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, US.
The Lewis Army Museum is a military museum in Washington state, housed in a former Salvation Army building and displaying uniforms, equipment, and combat vehicles. An outdoor area on the grounds holds additional vehicles and missile systems that visitors can walk around and examine up close.
The building was constructed in 1918 as a shelter for soldiers and taken over by the US military in 1921. Since then it has served as a place to collect and document the military history of the region.
The exhibits show personal items from soldiers who served in the region, including uniforms and gear from different periods. Walking through the rooms gives a concrete sense of what daily life in military service looked like.
The museum sits close to a main road and is open Wednesday through Sunday, making it easy to reach by car. Clear signs guide visitors through both the indoor rooms and the outdoor sections of the grounds.
Among the vehicles on the outdoor grounds are missile systems that are now rarely seen on public display anywhere. Visitors can stand right next to them and get a real sense of their actual size.
