Shine Tidelands State Park, Marine park in Jefferson County, United States.
Shine Tidelands State Park is a marine protected area on Bywater Bay near the western end of Hood Canal Bridge. The site spans hundreds of acres with sandy beaches, shallow waters, and natural coves that are exposed at low tide.
The land once belonged to Elmer and Sophia Wolfe before joining the Washington State Park System in 1967. A major expansion project in the 2010s significantly enlarged the protected area.
Local people come here to gather shellfish in the shallow waters and to watch the birds that live along the shoreline. The bay draws those who want to spend time observing wildlife and exploring the tidal areas.
Visitors need a Discover Pass for vehicle access and can use unsheltered picnic tables at several spots. Fires are not permitted, so bring cold food or focus on the natural surroundings instead.
The beach shrinks significantly at high tide, creating different shorelines for visitors depending on when they arrive. This daily change offers a fresh experience each time someone visits the park.
