Chehalis Cross

The Chehalis Cross is a granite Celtic memorial located on the western side of Brockton Point in Stanley Park. The monument sits along the seawall path and features carved stone details typical of Celtic cross design.

The cross commemorates eight people who died in 1906 when the tugboat Chehalis collided with the passenger ship Princess Victoria. The disaster occurred in waters near Stanley Park and was one of the major maritime accidents of that era.

Follow the seawall path west of the Brockton Point lighthouse to reach this memorial. Interpretive signs along the route help guide visitors to the exact location.

The Brockton Point lighthouse keeper rescued seven survivors from the water immediately after the collision. This act of heroism became part of the location's story and is often overlooked by visitors.
