Granville Square, Skyscraper in Financial District, Vancouver, Canada
Granville Square is a 30-story office tower at 200 Granville Street in downtown Vancouver, Canada. Built from steel and glass, it stands about 142 meters tall at the edge of the downtown waterfront area.
The tower was completed in 1973 as the only finished piece of Project 200, a large redevelopment plan for central Vancouver. The rest of that plan was never built, leaving this building as the sole result of the effort.
The tower stands right at the edge of Burrard Inlet, offering an unobstructed view of the harbor and the North Shore Mountains from the sidewalk. The glass facade shifts color depending on the time of day and the weather, something passersby on Granville Street often stop to notice.
The building is in the heart of Vancouver's downtown business district, within walking distance of Waterfront SkyTrain station. Since it is a private office tower, access to the interior is generally limited to tenants and their visitors.
The rooftop holds the Vancouver Harbour Control Tower, which manages floatplane traffic over Burrard Inlet. Most people walking past have no idea the building also serves the city's aviation operations from up top.
