Sinclair Centre, Federal complex in Downtown Vancouver, Canada.
The Sinclair Centre is a federal complex in downtown Vancouver that unites four restored historic buildings under a glass atrium. Located at 757 West Hastings Street between Granville and Howe streets, it now functions as a mix of retail shops and government offices serving the public.
The Post Office Building, dating to 1910, served as Vancouver's main postal facility until 1958 and displays Edwardian Baroque architectural features. The various structures were later combined and renovated to create the current unified complex in its modern form.
The complex is named after James Sinclair, a former fisheries minister and grandfather of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Visitors can see references to this heritage displayed throughout the buildings.
The complex is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5:30 PM and is easy to locate on a main downtown street. Allow time to explore the different sections, as the interior space is larger than the exterior suggests thanks to the connected buildings.
The clock tower houses Western Canada's largest clock movement, featuring four clock faces with 3.6-meter diameters (12 feet) each. The minute hands are remarkably heavy at 42 kilograms (92 pounds) apiece.
