SoDo, Industrial neighborhood in Seattle, United States
SoDo is an industrial neighborhood in Seattle that runs from South King Street to South Spokane Street, bordered by the Duwamish River to the west and the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel to the east. The area contains sports venues, office buildings, and converted warehouses that now serve diverse purposes.
The area emerged from tidal flats in the 1880s and developed into an industrial hub through land reclamation projects that brought railway yards and manufacturing plants. This infrastructure shaped the district as a major production and transportation center for more than a century.
Two major sports venues, T-Mobile Park and Lumen Field, draw crowds for baseball, football, and soccer events throughout the year. On game days, the neighborhood comes alive with fans walking the streets and gathering at local spots.
The neighborhood connects to regional transit through Sound Transit's light rail 1 Line at SODO and Stadium stations, with additional bus routes serving the area. Comfortable walking shoes help for exploring on foot, though traffic can be heavy on game days when crowds gather at the sports venues.
Former warehouses now house craft breweries, climbing gyms, music venues, and the Starbucks global headquarters, showing the district's shift from pure manufacturing to modern diversity. This blend of old buildings with contemporary uses creates a place where history and current enterprise coexist.
