University Bridge, Bascule bridge in Eastlake, Seattle, United States.
The University Bridge spans Portage Bay with a 218-foot double-leaf structure that connects the Eastlake neighborhood to the University District.
The bridge underwent a complete reconstruction from 1932 to 1933, replacing timber trestle approaches with concrete and steel structures to enhance durability.
Three double-leaf bascule bridges in Seattle, including University Bridge, received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
The bridge opens for marine traffic between 7 AM and 11 PM, providing a 42.5-foot clearance for vessels passing through the Lake Washington Ship Canal.
During the 1933 renovation, the bridge received the first open steel mesh grating technology implementation in the United States.
