College Club of Seattle

The College Club of Seattle is a private member organization housed in two connected houseboats on Lake Union. The facility provides rowing equipment, kayaks, paddleboards, and swimming facilities for members to use.

The club was founded in 1910 by six college graduates and initially operated from rented office space in a federal court building. Over time, the organization relocated to its current houseboat structures on the lake.

The organization transformed from a traditional members club into a water sports center, reflecting the evolving social dynamics of Seattle's community.

The location sits directly on the water with straightforward access for members using water and recreation activities. The houseboat design creates a unique setting for experiencing different types of activities throughout the year.

The two houseboats are named M/V Unity and M/V Inspiration and have been specially adapted to accommodate both athletic activities and social gatherings. This floating structure is an unusual solution for a recreation and social center within an urban setting.
