Lake Forest Park, city in King County, Washington, United States
Lake Forest Park is a city in King County located northeast of Seattle along the northern shore of Lake Washington. It features quiet residential streets with medium to large properties, Horizon View Park on a hilltop with recreational facilities, and Lyon Creek Waterfront Preserve with waterside trails and a dock.
Founded in 1912 by Ole Hanson, it was among the first carefully planned communities designed to preserve natural beauty by protecting trees, streams, and vegetation. It officially incorporated as a city in 1961 and worked to maintain its small-town character as nearby areas were added during the 1990s.
The name Lake Forest Park reflects the woodlands and water that shape daily life here. Residents take pride in their connection to nature, visible in gardens planted with local species and in volunteer efforts to restore natural habitats throughout the community.
You can walk, bike, or run along the Burke-Gilman Trail beside the lake, which is especially busy during warmer months. The town center around Third Place Commons has shops, a library, and offers summer markets for food and browsing.
The city was deliberately designed with wide streets and large lots to ensure trees and natural habitats remained intact, a concept that was quite uncommon for its time. Lyon Creek and McAleer Creek flow through the area and support salmon and other wildlife that residents actively work to protect.
