Mission Bridge, Steel girder bridge across Fraser River in British Columbia, Canada.
Mission Bridge is a steel girder structure spanning the Fraser River in British Columbia, connecting Mission and Abbotsford across its length. The roadway accommodates four traffic lanes with pedestrian pathways on each side.
Construction started in March 1969 and the structure was opened in 1973, creating a major transportation link for the region. The project significantly improved road access between Mission and Abbotsford.
The bridge opening ceremony gathered 1,500 people, featuring vintage vehicles, brass bands, local pioneers Alfred Hawkins and Mary Charles, and aerial displays.
The bridge is accessible to vehicles and pedestrians using separate pathways designed for each. Walking across offers clear views of the river and surrounding areas, making it straightforward to navigate.
The bridge structure contains 20 spans supported by 19 piers, with 11 piers positioned on land and 8 piers anchored in the Fraser River.
