Mount Prophet, Mountain summit in North Cascades National Park, Washington, US
Mount Prophet is a mountain summit in North Cascades National Park that reaches approximately 7,640 feet above sea level. The peak sits between isolated valleys near Ross Lake and features the steep slopes typical of the North Cascades range.
The peak received its name in the late 1800s from Tommy Rowland, a prospector who lived near the Skagit River and was known for his strong religious beliefs. The name reflects Rowland's character and his presence in the region during that era.
The first recorded ascent of Mount Prophet occurred in September 1975 by mountaineer Dan Sjolseth and his climbing partner through technical snow routes.
Visitors reach this summit by starting on the Ross Dam Trail which connects to the Big Beaver Trail, offering two main climbing routes. Expect technical terrain and exposed sections that require mountaineering experience and proper equipment.
The mountain maintains a prominence of 4,000 feet, ranking as the eighteenth most prominent peak in Washington state.
