Alexandra Bridge, Road bridge in Fraser Canyon, Canada
The Alexandra Bridge is a road bridge spanning the Fraser River in Fraser Canyon, linking regions on either side of this dramatic waterway. The structure uses a distinctive steel arch design that sits between steep canyon walls and carries regular traffic across the river.
The project began in the late 1950s, with construction facing obstacles due to challenging ground conditions along the canyon walls. The completed bridge in the early 1960s significantly improved connections between important regions on both sides of the river.
Two aluminum fish sculptures stand at both ends of the bridge, representing the connection between the structure and the Fraser River environment.
Crossing during daylight hours is advisable, as the road at this exposed location can be affected by wind and weather conditions. Vehicles should maintain steady speed and watch for other traffic, especially during poor conditions.
At its inauguration in 1962, this steel structure ranked as the second longest arch bridge of its type worldwide and remains the longest in Fraser Canyon.
