Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness spans 153,057 acres across Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests, featuring 63 alpine lakes and dense coniferous forests.
The designation of this wilderness in 1984 through the Washington Wilderness Act preserved lands from the former Chelan Division of Washington Forest Reserve.
Native American tribes inhabited these lands for generations, leaving artifacts that document their traditional ways of living in harmony with nature.
Visitors need permits for overnight stays and can access the southern portion of the wilderness by scheduled ferry boat service or private watercraft.
The south-facing section contains rolling highlands that descend abruptly into Lake Chelan valley, creating distinct geological formations.
