The Rotary Clubs established Playland in 1955, selling 14,000 ride tickets at 10 cents each on opening day and repaying construction costs within three years.
The park operates alongside Storyland and Fresno Chaffee Zoo, creating an integrated recreational complex that serves the local community of Fresno County.
Visitors can access both Playland and Storyland via a miniature train that circles Lake Washington, connecting the two entertainment areas within Roeding Park.
The profits generated by Playland contribute to community developments, including improvements to Woodward Park and the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.
