Mount Rose Ski Tahoe, Ski resort in Sierra Nevada Mountains, Nevada
Mount Rose Ski Tahoe is a ski resort in the Sierra Nevada in Nevada, sitting at around 9,700 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level. It offers trails for all levels, from easy beginner runs to steep sections reserved for experienced skiers.
The resort was founded in 1953 as Reno Ski Bowl and hosted the NCAA Skiing Championships the following year. Over time it grew and changed its name, becoming one of the main winter sports destinations in the area.
The resort combines two distinct areas, the Slide side and Rose side, each offering separate facilities that shape the winter sports community in Nevada.
The resort is about a 25-minute drive from Reno airport, which makes it a convenient option for visitors flying in. On site you can rent equipment and take lessons, so there is no need to bring your own gear.
An area called The Chutes opened in 2004 with slopes pitched between 40 and 55 degrees, making it one of the steepest sections in the Sierra Nevada. Experienced skiers seek it out specifically for the difficulty of its descents.
