Sands Regency, casino hotel in Nevada, United States
Sands Regency is a large hotel and gaming resort in downtown Reno, Nevada, with multiple towers added over decades. The building offers spacious rooms with flat-screen televisions and free internet, a casino with slot machines and card tables, and several restaurants along with a bingo parlor.
The property opened in the 1960s as the small Sands Motor Inn with 80 rooms and expanded gradually through towers added in the 1970s and 1980s. The name changed several times before settling on Sands Regency in the late 1980s, and the building went through ownership changes and renovations, particularly from 2017 onward under Jacobs Entertainment, which rebranded it as J Resort in 2023.
The name reflects the hotel's origins as a small motel in the 1960s. Today it serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors meet for gaming and dining, with the casino floor and restaurants forming the heart of social activity.
The hotel sits just blocks from downtown Reno and is about ten minutes by car from Reno-Tahoe Airport, with Lake Tahoe less than an hour away. It offers free parking and an airport shuttle service, plus a computer station for printing airline tickets, making arrival and check-in straightforward.
The property plans a major art installation featuring a 65-foot-wide digital display showcasing artwork from around the world, along with Italian-designed sculptures valued at around one hundred million dollars. This ambitious project stands apart from typical casino decor and aims to enrich the visitor experience with artistic elements.
