Harrah's Reno, casino hotel in Reno Nevada
Harrah's Reno is a two-tower hotel in the heart of downtown Reno, Nevada, with rooms offered in a range of styles. The property includes a large casino floor, several restaurants, bars, a swimming pool, a hot tub, a sauna, and a fitness area.
William Harrah opened the business in 1937 as a small bingo parlor before transforming it into Nevada's first full casino in 1946. In 1971, the company became the first gaming business in the world to be listed on a public stock exchange.
The hotel takes its name from William Harrah, one of the first people to treat Nevada gaming as a serious business rather than a side attraction. For many visitors today, the building stands as a reminder of how Reno built its identity around entertainment and gambling.
The hotel sits next to the well-known Reno Arch in the city center and is within easy walking distance of shops, museums, and the riverwalk area. Free parking is available on-site, and the Amtrak station is a short walk away.
In 1956, a revolving stage was built inside the casino for live performances, which was a new idea in entertainment at the time. Shortly after, an air curtain was installed at the entrance to keep outside air out while the door remained open, a concept that spread to casinos across the country.
