Lovelock

Lovelock is a town in Pershing County in northern Nevada, situated at roughly 1,200 meters elevation in a desert landscape surrounded by mountain ranges and valleys. It sits at the intersection of Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 95, functioning as a transportation hub between Reno and Winnemucca.

The settlement began in 1861 when James Blake established a station, which he later sold to George Lovelock, who donated land for a railroad station. The town developed as a rail hub supporting passage through the region.

The Lovers Lock Plaza is a gathering spot where visitors attach padlocks to metal chains, honoring a tradition that represents relationships and connections. This practice has become a personal ritual for those passing through who want to mark their bonds in a tangible way.

The town is easily accessible via Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 95, which run directly through it, offering lodging and basic services for travelers. Keep in mind that the desert setting means very hot summers, and the highways can be busy during peak travel times.

The round courthouse from 1919 features a circular interior hallway and Corinthian pilasters representing early 20th-century Nevada architecture. This unusual circular design is rare in courthouse buildings and creates a distinctive impression when visitors step inside.
