Lovelock Cave, Prehistoric cave in Nevada, United States
The limestone cave extends 150 feet into the West Humboldt Mountains, featuring multiple chambers with natural rock formations and mineral deposits.
Native Americans inhabited this cave between 2580 BCE and 1000 BCE, leaving behind thousands of artifacts including tools, weapons, and woven baskets.
The Paiute people preserve oral traditions about the Si-Te-Cah people who lived near Lake Lahontan and used the cave as a settlement.
Visitors can access the cave through a maintained trail from Churchill County Road 399, with interpretive signs explaining its archaeological significance.
Archaeological excavations in 1911 uncovered preserved duck decoys dated to 2000 years ago, representing the oldest known waterfowl hunting devices.
