Hilden is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, located roughly 15 kilometers (nine miles) east of Düsseldorf in the Mettmann district. It covers a connected urban area with surrounding woods and parks that gently blend into the Lower Rhine lowlands.
The first written mention dates from 1288, when the settlement was still a rural area with a Romanesque church. During the 19th century, the community shifted toward industry, focusing on textile processing and mechanical engineering.
This municipality hosts an annual jazz calendar and a traditional marksmen's festival that brings the community together each year. During winter, the Christmas market fills the central area with local stalls and mulled wine.
