Trésor Regional Nature Reserve, Regional nature reserve in Roura, French Guiana
The reserve extends over 2,464 hectares on the southwestern flank of Kaw Mountain, between a provincial road and the Orapu River.
The area served as a refuge for numerous species during glacial periods, leading to the current high levels of biodiversity and endemic species.
Local Palikur Amerindians actively supported environmental protection by opposing mining projects that threatened the forest in the early 2000s.
The reserve contains several walking trails through different ecosystems, from swamp forests to wet savannahs, with guided tours available upon request.
The reserve contains 1,100 plant species and houses rare carnivorous plants from the Drosera and Utricularia genera in its wet savannahs.
