Utah Territorial Statehouse
Utah Territorial Statehouse, Historic governmental building in Fillmore, United States.
The Utah Territorial Statehouse is a two-story red sandstone building located in Fillmore that now operates as a museum. Inside, multiple rooms contain exhibitions and historical artifacts documenting the early development of the territory.
Construction started in 1852 and finished in 1855, when the building became the first capitol of Utah Territory. Government operations later moved to Salt Lake City, and the structure has served different purposes since then.
The rooms display furniture and objects that show how people lived during the settlement of the territory. Visitors can see what daily life looked like for families who built this region.
The museum is open on most weekdays and allows visitors to walk through the rooms at their own pace. Plan to spend enough time exploring all the exhibitions across both floors and the basement level.
The stonemasons who built the structure carved their initials into the exterior walls, expecting plaster to cover them later. These marks remain visible today, creating an unexpected link to the craftsmen who worked there over 160 years ago.
