Delta Center, Indoor sports arena in Downtown Salt Lake City, US
Delta Center is a covered sports stadium in downtown Salt Lake City with a capacity of roughly 20,000 seats for basketball and other events. The building spans multiple levels and features seating rows that rise from the playing floor to the upper gallery.
The facility was built between 1990 and 1991 as a new home venue for a professional sports team in the city. In 2002, organizers used the space for Olympic competitions on ice and adapted the equipment accordingly.
This arena serves as the home court for a professional basketball team and draws concertgoers throughout the year. On game nights, fans gather in surrounding streets and bars before entering the building.
The arena sits close to several bus lines and the light rail system that bring visitors downtown. Multiple parking garages and surface lots surround the building, though traffic increases on event days.
For the Winter Games, crews transformed the basketball hall into an ice surface and installed temporary seating to give spectators a better view of the competitions. After the Games, workers rebuilt the facility back to its original form.
