Discovery Gateway

Discovery Gateway is a children's museum in Salt Lake City featuring interactive displays across science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics education. The various exhibit zones spread throughout a large building in the Gateway district and allow children to learn through hands-on experiences.

The institution was founded in 1978 and moved to the Gateway district in 2006 after county residents approved funding for the expansion. This relocation brought the museum to a central location where it could serve more visitors.

The Story Factory and Studio areas combine creative learning where children make comics, perform, and conduct experiments as part of daily activities. Visitors can watch how play and hands-on work shape how young people engage with ideas.

The museum sits in downtown Salt Lake City and is easy to reach on foot from nearby areas. Plan to spend several hours here to explore all the zones, as the building has activities suited to different ages.

Visitors can see an Intermountain Healthcare Life Flight helicopter in the outdoor area where children learn how rescue operations work. This close-up view of real emergency equipment makes the experience memorable for many children.
