Harkers Canyon

Harkers Canyon is a natural canyon in the Oquirrh Mountains near Bacchus in Utah, extending across roughly 12 kilometers with a gradual descent through the landscape. The canyon features varying terrain with natural water sources and is framed by steep mountain sides typical of this region.

Mining operations by Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation beginning in the early 20th century shaped the canyon, with extraction activities leaving marks on the landscape. The copper mining heritage remains visible through infrastructure and altered terrain that reflects this industrial past.

The canyon lies within Wildlife Management Unit 18, providing opportunities for wildlife observation and environmental research in Salt Lake County.

Access to the canyon is available near the community of Bacchus and State Route 111, making it relatively straightforward to reach. Visitors should prepare for mountain terrain with varying elevations and bring adequate water for hiking in this high-altitude area.

A KDYL 1060 AM radio transmission tower sits on a ridge between this canyon and Barneys Canyon, visible from various vantage points. This man-made structure stands out against the natural mountain landscape.
