Farnsworth Peak, Mountain summit in Tooele County and Salt Lake County, United States
Farnsworth Peak is a mountain summit in the Oquirrh range, straddling Tooele County and Salt Lake County. The peak reaches 2,761 meters and holds broadcasting infrastructure that serves the Salt Lake Valley region.
The peak was named after Philo Farnsworth, who invented the first fully electronic television system in the 1920s. The naming honors this breakthrough in broadcasting technology that changed how people received information.
The peak serves as a central broadcasting point for numerous television and radio stations, connecting communities throughout the Salt Lake Valley region.
The eastern approach is not generally open to visitors due to private land, but the western side from Tooele provides public hiking routes to the summit. The Tooele approach offers easier access for those looking to reach the top.
The summit holds three separate transmitter complexes: Big Farnsworth, The KSTU Site, and Little Farnsworth, forming a layered communication network. This multi-site infrastructure makes it a major hub for broadcasting across the entire valley.
