CFB Winnipeg is an air base in Winnipeg, Canada, where military aircraft operate and flight training takes place. The base has multiple training organizations, including the Canadian Forces Flying Training School, and features hangars, long asphalt runways, and various aircraft types used for training and transport missions.
The base was founded in 1925 and was one of Canada's earliest air force bases. During World War II, it served as a key training center under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, instructing over 130,000 personnel, before becoming part of the unified Canadian Forces in 1968.
The base is adjacent to Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport and integrated into the city, making it accessible. The Air Force Heritage Museum features outdoor aircraft displays and indoor exhibits that allow visitors to explore aviation history.
The museum displays ten historic aircraft outdoors, including the CF-100 Canuck jet and Beechcraft Musketeer, plus a restored B-25 bomber and Dakota transport plane inside. The 17 Wing badge features a canoe on water as a tribute to Winnipeg's history along important waterways.
