Canyon X

Canyon X is a narrow slot canyon near Page featuring tall sandstone walls carved by water over long periods. The rocks form complex patterns and multiple levels as the canyon narrows toward the top.

The canyon formed over millions of years as water cut through Navajo sandstone, creating the rock formations seen today. This process continues now when rainwater flows through the narrow gaps.

Canyon X sits on Navajo land, and local communities share stories about the place's meaning during guided tours. The way visitors experience this landscape is shaped by Navajo knowledge about the land.

Visitors must book guided tours in advance through authorized operators, as exploring on your own is not permitted for safety. Most tours happen during daylight and require suitable shoes for uneven ground.

The place is less well known than nearby slot canyons, giving visitors more space and quiet during their visit. Photographers appreciate the light beams that occasionally shine through the openings above.
