Antelope Canyon, Slot canyon in Page, United States
Red sandstone walls curve through narrow passageways, creating two sections known as Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon in northern Arizona.
The canyon formed over millions of years as water eroded the Navajo Sandstone, creating deep corridors through the rock formations.
The Navajo people named the Upper Canyon 'Tsé bighánílíní', meaning 'the place where water runs through rocks' in their native language.
Access to both sections requires guided tours led by authorized Navajo operators, with advance reservations recommended during peak seasons from March to October.
Light beams penetrate the canyon openings between March and October, creating bright shafts that illuminate the narrow pathways below.
