Upper Antelope Canyon, Slot canyon attraction in Page, Arizona, United States.
Upper Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon near Page, Arizona, formed by narrow sandstone corridors with smooth, wave-like walls that rise to about 120 feet (37 meters) at their tallest point. The passages are so narrow that in places only one or two people can walk side by side, while the walls shift through layers of orange and red depending on the light.
Water carved this canyon through Navajo sandstone over a very long period of time, with flash floods cutting deeper into the rock each time they passed through. The Navajo people knew this place long before it opened to visitors in the 1990s, and they have managed access to it ever since.

Tours must be booked in advance, as the site does not allow independent access and guided groups are the only way in. The canyon is open throughout the year, but lighting conditions inside vary a great deal from one season to another, so it is worth checking what to expect before you go.
Although Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon are close to each other, they are two entirely separate formations managed by different Navajo groups. The upper section is wider and easier to walk through, while the lower one involves ladders and tighter passages, making the two very different experiences despite being a short drive apart.
