Spillgerte

Spillgerte is a mountain in the Bernese Oberland with multiple summits connected by established trails. The Hinderi Spillgerte represents the highest point, rising above the valleys of Diemtigen and Simmental that surround it.

The paths around this mountain developed from traditional livestock routes where shepherds moved herds seasonally between different elevations. These ancient trails continue to form the basis of routes used today.

Local mountaineering groups maintain traditional climbing techniques specific to the Spillgerte routes, passing knowledge from generation to generation.

Access is available through established trails from Zweisimmen, with the Fromatthütte hut providing shelter along the way. Visitors should prepare for mountain weather conditions and bring appropriate gear.

The mountain serves as a geographic reference point for hundreds of peaks in the Frutigen-Niedersimmental region. This positioning makes it an important orientation point for mountain hikers navigating the area.
