Blankenburg Castle with castle barn

The L-shaped castle features a two-story main building with a single-story wing and stands at an elevation of 979 meters in the canton of Bern.

First documented in 1329 under the Freiherren von Weissenburg, the castle underwent reconstruction in 1767 after a fire destroyed its original medieval structure.

The castle's double covered staircase mirrors the architectural design of the Bern Town Hall, representing regional Swiss architectural traditions.

The Interessengemeinschaft Schloss Blankenburg purchased the property in 2012 to convert it into a meeting and reception center with restaurant facilities.

The castle served as the administrative center of the Obersimmental district from 1386 until 2009, maintaining political functions for over six centuries.
