Cloister of the former Barfüsser monastery

The cloister features traditional medieval architectural elements with arched walkways surrounding an inner courtyard at the cantonal court of law complex.

First documented in the 1240s, this Franciscan monastery operated until 1524 when it was dissolved during the Protestant Reformation period in Zurich.

The structure represents the religious heritage of Zurich and maintains its status as a class B Swiss cultural property of regional significance.

Located at the intersection of Obmannamtsgasse and Hirschengraben, the cloister remains part of the current cantonal court building complex.

Following its closure as a monastery, the buildings served multiple functions including a grain depot, casino, wine cellar, and theater before becoming judicial offices.
