Café Schober

Café Schober occupies four floors of a neo-baroque building and serves house-made pastries, cakes, and a signature hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. Each floor has its own character and purpose, ranging from intimate corners to larger spaces for sitting and enjoying refreshments.

This establishment was founded in 1842 and has remained a gathering place in Zurich's Old Town ever since. It has held its position through generations as locals and travelers have continued to seek it out.

The Salon Rouge and Colonial Café sections display period furnishings, wallpapers with historical patterns, and showcase how coffee is traditionally prepared here. These spaces invite visitors to step into another era while observing how locals and travelers gather in this long-standing meeting spot.

The café is located in the Old Town, just a short walk from the main station, and opens most days of the week. With multiple floors, it is easy to find a quieter or more sociable spot depending on your preference.

The café underwent a significant closure before reopening with a fresh vision for its future. A French pastry chef now creates daily offerings that work alongside carefully selected coffee blends, adding a new layer to its long story.
