Rugghubel

Rugghubel is a mountain summit in the Swiss Alps located in Obwalden, rising to 2,296 meters with steep rock formations and multiple hiking routes across its terrain. A mountain hut at the site serves as a base for day visitors and overnight guests exploring the peak and surrounding areas.

The mountain gained attention in 1883 when the Swiss Alpine Club built a wooden shelter at the site. This original structure evolved over the decades into the mountain hut that welcomes visitors today.

The mountain draws climbers who gather at the hut to share meals and stories from their time in the Alps. The place reflects a tradition of hospitality where visitors from different backgrounds come together around food and shared mountain experiences.

Visitors can reach the mountain via the Brunni-Bahn cable car from Engelberg to Ristis, followed by a hike to the summit area. Prepare for alpine conditions, changing weather, and bring proper gear to safely enjoy the walk and views.

The winter room of the mountain hut stays open year-round, providing 19 sleeping spots, cooking facilities, and a drinking water well. This setup lets visitors spend time on the mountain independently even when the main season ends.
