Sardonahütte, Mountain hut in canton St. Gallen, Switzerland.
The Sardonahütte is a mountain lodge at 2158 meters elevation at the end of the Calfeisental valley, offering shelter and meals to hikers. The building has 43 dormitory beds plus an additional 18-bed winter room that remains open year-round.
The foundation stone of the Sardonahütte was laid in 1898 during the regional alpine movement's expansion into high mountain areas. Since then the building has undergone several renovations and modifications to meet changing visitor needs and modern standards.
The hut is run by the Zindelspitz section of the Swiss Alpine Club and offers a place where hikers gather to eat and sleep together in the traditional way. This kind of hospitality brings visitors from different regions together in simple, shared spaces.
The hut is reached via St. Martin, accessible by car only during summer months along a narrow road beside Lake Gigerwald. Winter access becomes more difficult, so checking current conditions and planning ahead is essential before visiting.
The hut can also be reached on foot via hiking routes that take several hours through alpine terrain, offering an alternative to the summer road access. These trails connect various neighboring peaks and provide visitors with multiple ways to arrive depending on preference and fitness level.
