Fidazer Bergsturz, Geological landslide site in Flims, Switzerland
The landslide area displays massive angular stone blocks reaching sizes of up to 700 cubic meters on its eastern edge, while the western side contains earth masses.
On Easter Monday, April 10, 1939, at 11:45 AM, 100,000 cubic meters of rock fell from the 400-meter vertical cliff face on the south wall of Flimserstein.
The Sunnehusli children's home, situated near the forest edge above the road to Bargis, was destroyed during the landslide, marking a significant local tragedy.
The site extends across 17 hectares of meadowland, with the rupture zone located between 1600 and 1800 meters above sea level.
Roman Bezzola, a hotel owner's son, captured two photographs within five seconds of the masses rolling down beneath the steep wall.
