Burg Belmont

The remains of Burg Belmont stand on a rocky peak with steep cliffs to the north and east at 1,240 meters above sea level.

The castle dates back to the year 1000 and served as the residence of the Barons of Belmont until they relocated to another castle near Castrisch.

The structure represents the architectural practices of medieval Swiss nobility, featuring a main tower and remnants of defensive ring walls throughout the grounds.

The castle ruins require careful navigation as the site lacks wheelchair accessibility and contains uneven surfaces across the ancient fortification structures.

Archaeological excavations between 1932 and 1936 uncovered a deep cistern situated in the center of three main structures within two semi-circular ring walls.
