Hinterrheinbrücke, Railway bridge in Grisons, Switzerland.
The Hinterrheinbrücke Reichenau is a railway viaduct that crosses the Hinterrhein River and the A13 highway, spanning approximately 200 meters across both obstacles. The structure consists of steel box girders supported by distinctive V-shaped concrete piers.
The new construction was completed in 2018 to replace an older steel truss bridge dating to the 19th century. This renewal reflects the ongoing modernization of transportation routes in the Swiss Alps.
The bridge demonstrates how contemporary engineering fits into the traditional mountain landscape of Grisons. For visitors, it shows how modern infrastructure operates within a historically established region.
The structure is part of the single-track railway line between Reichenau-Tamins and Disentis/Mustér and serves daily rail transport through the region. Visitors can observe the structure from the road or the riverbank areas.
The bridge's steel legs splay outward from the concrete supports in a distinctive way, creating a notable visual effect. Large sections were assembled elsewhere and then installed using specialized cranes positioned for the work.
