Crap Sogn Parcazi, Castle ruin and church building in Trin, Switzerland
Crap Sogn Parcazi is a medieval castle ruin and church building that stands on a rocky hill called Hohentrins in Trin. The site combines defensive walls and towers with sacred architecture all within one integrated structure.
This site began in the 8th century and went through several changes and rebuilding over the centuries. A major fire in 1470 led to the abandonment of the castle and ended its use as a fortified residence.
The name comes from Saint Pancras of Rome, showing the religious importance this place held for people in the region. Today you can still see how the church and fortification were built as one unified structure.
The site sits on the Hohentrins hill and can be reached by walking from Via Principala, the main road through Trin. The location offers views across the surrounding landscape and is open to visitors for exploration on foot.
Excavations since 1931 have suggested that Pepin the Younger, father of Charlemagne, may have founded the original fortress here. This archaeological discovery connects the site to one of the most important families of the early Middle Ages.
