Roter Turm, High-rise office building in Winterthur, Switzerland
The Roter Turm is a 24-story high-rise with a distinctive red brick facade that stands out against the city skyline. The 100-meter-tall structure provides approximately 22,700 square meters of office space accommodating educational and institutional tenants.
The tower was completed in 1999 by architect Burkard Meyer from Baden and initially owned by telecommunications provider Swisscom. Its later conversion into an educational facility marked a significant change in how the building serves the city.
The building houses the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, making it an important educational hub in the city. Students and researchers use the spaces daily, which shapes its character as a place of learning.
The building is located about 300 meters from Winterthur railway station and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should note that it functions as a closed office and educational campus, with the most activity during daytime hours.
Following a major renovation, the tower features vertical and horizontal slats integrated into the glazed facades on all sides. These elements enhance thermal insulation while giving the exterior a striking visual pattern that changes with the light.
