Little Mount Cameroon, Volcanic summit in Fako, Cameroon
This volcanic peak rises to 1,713 meters (5,620 feet) on the southern side of Mount Cameroon and forms a notable summit in the region's volcanic chain. It sits near the Gulf of Guinea and represents an important geographic feature in the area.
This mountain became part of Mount Cameroon National Park in December 2009 through a government decree protecting the volcanic landscape. This designation marked an important moment for conservation efforts in the region and the surrounding volcanic system.
Local communities in the surrounding area have historically relied on the mountain as a source of water and have integrated it into their daily lives and traditions. The slopes and forests around it continue to be important to residents who use these spaces for various activities and gathering.
Hikers should work with local guides available in nearby communities who know the trails and can provide safety support throughout the climb. Planning your visit during the dry season makes the routes more accessible and provides better visibility of the landscape.
The western slopes receive enormous amounts of rainfall each year, creating unusual conditions that support a diverse range of plant life. This extreme moisture has allowed a distinctive ecosystem to develop that is rarely found in other parts of the region.
