Limbe Wildlife Centre, Wildlife rehabilitation center and sanctuary in Limbe, Cameroon
Limbe Wildlife Centre is a sanctuary and rehabilitation facility that cares for primates rescued from illegal trafficking in southwestern Cameroon. The center houses chimpanzees, gorillas, mandrills, and other species in spacious facilities designed for their recovery and well-being.
The center was founded in 1993 as a response to the growing problem of wildlife trafficking and abuse in the region. This project emerged from a partnership between the Cameroonian government and the Pandrillus Foundation, an organization dedicated to primate conservation.
The center works with schools and communities to help people understand why wildlife matters and how to live alongside these animals safely. These education programs show visitors how conservation efforts connect to daily life in the region.
Guided tours allow visitors to observe the animals and learn about their stories and recovery. It is best to arrive early in the day and wear sturdy shoes, as you will walk through outdoor areas to see the different enclosures.
The center has successfully returned many rescued animals to the wild through carefully managed reintroduction programs. These efforts demonstrate that with specialized care and rehabilitation, even animals from traumatic backgrounds can recover and thrive in their natural environments.
